Thailand

The Emerald Buddha Temple

I’ve just discovered that one of the best parts about living in Hong Kong is the ease of finding cheap flights to the rest of Southeast Asia. Last weekend, I went on a spur of the moment trip to Thailand…spent two days in Phuket and another two days exploring Bangkok. I was really taken in by the friendliness of Thai people, the great food, and beauty of Bangkok’s temples. Here’s a few selected photos from the trip – all of them can be seen on my Flickr (in slideshow format). Continue reading ‘Thailand’

Festival Walk

Festival Walk

A couple quick shots from the mall that’s down the road from me. It’s hard to capture the sense of scale, but this place is huge. I think it has 8 levels in total…mostly filled with high-end brands and luxury shops. Continue reading ‘Festival Walk’

Cut & Paste

Cut & Paste

Sorry that I’ve been MIA for the last week… But there’s a reason for it – one I’ll reveal soon. All I can say for now is that you can expect alot more out of this blog in the coming month, including a needed redesign, and more (quality) written content.

For now, a few pictures from a design competition I went to last week – Cut & Paste…where 4 designers are put on stage and are asked to design a piece on a given theme in 15 minutes. Very interesting to watch how other people work, and to see the type of concepts that can come out of such a short period of time. Click

Reclamation Street

Reclaimed

Reclamation Street (Chinese: 新填地街) is a street stretching from Yau Ma Tei to Mong Kok, Kowloon, Hong Kong. As its name suggests, it was built on the reclaimed western shore of Kowloon Peninsula. The street is lined with old residential buildings, as well as a wide variety of businesses at the street level. The Wholesale Fruit Market and abandoned Yaumati Theatre is located at the street’s junction with Waterloo Road.

-Wikipedia

Most of these photos are from the wholesale fruit market, which looks abandoned late in the day, but is supposedly bustling in the mornings. I’ll have to go back to check it out.

Nightmarket

Red Lamps

I’ve been meaning to make a trip down to the local market at night just so I could take a couple photos of these incredible red lamps that are hung everywhere. A few snapshots from Mong Kok…

Sailing

Offshore

This weekend I got to check off an item on my April to-do list (a few days late..), which was to learn more about sailing. I got to join in a race based out of Hebe Haven, courtesy of a few friends I met through the Open Passage Expedition.

Ultimate & More

North Point

A few weeks ago I joined an Ultimate Frisbee league. HKUPA. Besides a few pick up games at UCLA, and dusty matches in Tanzania…I’d never really played ultimate before, so learning how to really play has been a challenge and a great outlet from work. So far I’ve met some quality people and enjoyed playing at a couple nice venues. Here are some pictures from that…and from breakfast and a walk around North Point with Ray Lok … and a couple more sidestreets in the city. Continue reading ‘Ultimate & More’

Happy Valley

A few photos from a night out at the weekly horse races. Roughly $1 USD to enter, and bets start from another $1 USD. With horse names like Dumbarton Rock, Lucky Money Star, Able Dragon, and Holiday Sun – what’s not to love? Continue reading ‘Happy Valley’
