Global Warming

Finally, an explanation for Global Warming.

Tanzania (by Numbers)

Of course it would take me going there and coming back to finally read up on the statistics of Tanzania’s economy.

It’s the 8th poorest country in the world. It’s the 7th most populated in Africa. Its exports: $2.227 Billion. Its imports: $4.861 billion. Agriculture comprises 42.5% of the country’s GDP (or income from domestic production alone). Of the population, 40% are muslim, 40% are christian, and 20% subscribe to indigenous beliefs.  Of the workforce, 80% are involved in agriculture. This explains why 80% of the population is also rural. 73% of children enrolled in school attend. There are 120 ethnic groups that were bound together by a colonial cartographer’s pen.

TZ’s major export markets? U.K., Germany, India, Japan, Italy, China, Bahrain, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, Pakistan, Indonesia…no mention of the U.S. So while Bush agreed to give about $700 million in aid money, the real benefit would be increasing trade with them (instead of giving clothes and goods that end up on the second-hand market, and undercut local businesses).
